Elana Herzog

"Civilizations and its discontents" by Elana Herzog.

HINT: A very unusual surface design or textile illustration.

"Found textiles are stapled to panels using thousands of metal staples. Parts of the fabric and the staples are then removed, leaving a residue of shredded fabric and perforated wall surface in some areas, and densely stapled and built-up areas elesewhere. The structure of the image is thus generated directly from the weave of the fabric."*

Tilleke Schwarz

"Play with me" by Tilleke Schwarz.

HINT: Graphic and visual poetry.

"Composed of a number of seemingly unrelated images, which were mostly taken from daily newspapers, these graphics pictures strategically stitched onto linen cloth use all manner of threads, scraps of fabrics, lace and very special japanese green metallic thread in their depiction."* The work contains narrative elements, not really complete stories with a beginnign, a storyline, and an end. The narrative structures are used as a form of communication with the viewer.

Donatella Crippa y Poppy Treffry

"It keeps you running" by Donatella Crippa and " I love Tea" by Poppy Treffry.

HINT: Textile illustrations.

"Earl Grey is the subject of this piece from the artist's collection of appliquéd and free-machine embroidered tea and coffee themed items."* The Little badges were inspired by the need to use tiny scraps of fabrics left over from making larger pieces.
